REPORT OF THE DIRECTOR OF PUPIL PERSONNEL

As Director of Pupil Services, it is with great pleasure that I present this annual report.

In starting my fourth year as Director I can look back at numerous changes and improvements in programming for children with special needs. We currently have five specialized programs along with the inclusionary and accommodation process district wide.

The BEAM program at Valley View, Positive Behavior Lab 4-6, Behavior Intervention Program 7-8 at Henry Wilson, MR/LD program at the high school and the Farmington Learning Academy have been major contributors in lowering our out of district student population. In combination with these programs is the dedicated staff continuing their professional development in the areas of Autism, unique health issues, and other challenging disabilities. The number of out of district students in August of 2005 was 26; now the number is 17. Great job!!!

As this year continues, the special education department is focusing on district wide transitions of students in order to successfully “Follow the Child” by sharing data, instructional practices, and a continuum of services. With that in mind, I want to express my deep gratitude to all the case managers, specialists, teachers, paraprofessionals, and administration for their support and dedication to all students of Farmington and Middleton.

In closing, I would like to express my appreciation to Ms. Michelle Langa, Mrs. Ruth Ellen Vaughn, SAU staff, and the Farmington and Middleton School Boards for their continued support.

Respectfully submitted,
Susan E. Pleau
