Henry Wilson Memorial School (HWMS) in Farmington, NH has approximately 24 students served by Title I in grades 4 through 8.  It is designated a Targeted Assistance School, which means that Title I must receive:

·         parental permission to work with students

·         students must be below grade level expectations

·         students must not be receiving special education services

·         support must be supplemental and not surplant classroom instruction

Support is given primarily in math in small groups in the classroom in grades 4 & 5.  Fasst Math, a computer math fact practice program, is used for 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.

Title I supports an after school Math Tutoring Program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 until 4:00.  Children in grades 4 and 5 work in small groups with highly qualified teachers and paraprofessionals to support the EveryDay math series that is used in the regular classroom. Fasst Math is also available to these students.

HWMS is designated a School in Need of Improvement (SINI) which means the students have not made adequate yearly progress on the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) for 2 years in reading and 3 years in math.  It is required that the district set-aside Title I funds for 9 students to receive Supplemental Educational Services (SES).  To be eligible for SES a student must receive Free/Reduced Lunch and be in need of extra academic support.  SES providers are independent  companies that are approved by the State of NH and chosen by the parents of the students.  Title I puts the parents in touch with the SES providers, the SES providers in touch with the classroom teachers and then pays for the tutoring services.  These services are designed to help students improve academically.

Jeff Keene, the 4-6 principal, has applied for a grant, available to Title I schools, that will support the Parent Information Resource Center (PIRC), a state agency that will meet with HWMS parents and teachers monthly. PIRC is dedicated to improving student achievement by helping parents and teachers better meet the needs of students.

Title I staff attend school activities throughout the year to help parents understand the role of Title I in the school and to seek input from families to improve Title services. Title I holds at least one meeting per year specifically to meet with parents to improve Title I services.

Title I supports a summer school math program for students in grades 4 & 5.  Students attend 4 weeks in July for 3 hours/day in order to improve their math abilities.

Henry Wilson Memorial School Compact is a policy which was developed because a child’s education is a responsibility shared by the school and family.  To support the goals of the school district to educate all children effectively, the schools and parents must work as knowledgeable partners.

Donna Therrien, the 4-6 guidance counselor is the homeless liaison.  Donna works with students experiencing homelessness to ensure continuity in their education.
