Valley View Community School (VVCS) in Farmington, NH has approximately 450 students in grades Pre-k through 3.  It is designated a schoolwide Title I School, which means that Title I may use their funds to support any student who is not making adequate progress in grades K-3. Support is given primarily in math in small groups in the classroom. Under a schoolwide program, a school is not required to identify particular children as eligible for services, demonstrate that the services provided with Title I funds are supplemental to services that would otherwise be provided, or document that Title I funds are used to benefit only the intended beneficiaries.

Title I supports an after school Math Tutoring Program on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 until 4:00.  Children in grades 1-3 work in small groups with highly qualified teachers and paras to support the Every Day Math series that is used in the regular classroom instruction.

Title I supports a summer school math program for students in grades K-3.  Students attend 4 weeks in July, 4 days a week for 3 hours a day in order to improve their math abilities.

VVCS is designated a School in Need of Improvement (SINI) which means the students have not made adequate yearly progress on the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) for 2 years in math. It is required that the district set-aside Title I funds for 9 students for Supplemental Educational Services (SES).  To be eligible for SES a student must receive Free/Reduced Lunch and be in need of extra academic support.  SES providers are independent companies that are approved by the State of NH and chosen by the parents of the students.  Title I puts the parents in touch with the SES providers, the SES providers in touch with the classroom teachers and then pays for the tutoring services. These services are designed to help students improve academically.

Title I helped VVCS receive a grant that supports the Parent Information Resource Center(PIRC) a State agency that meets with VVCS parents and teachers monthly. The PIRC group has completed a schoolwide survey which indicated that communication from home-to-school and parent-to-parent needed to be improved.  The PIRC members have worked to improve communication by instituting a parent volunteer for each classroom  The classroom volunteer helps teachers reach out to parents for support in a variety of ways: finding volunteers for class trips; volunteers for classroom support; organizing class parties and helping the teacher make games and copies etc. PIRC has reached out to the parents of new students entering kindergarten by developing a booklet that helps parents understand what is expected of a kindergarten student.  A new project for VVCS PIRC is to extend the PIRC group to the middle school (Henry Wilson Memorial School.)
